Morris grabs back-to-back Sydney poles
Very wet conditions at Sydney Motorsport Park faced the Dunlop Super3 as they set out to qualify for the second race at round four.
Even so, Nash Morris continued his weekend dominance in his Ford Falcon FG by posting the soggy pole winning time, 2.2 seconds clear of his rivals.
The session had hardly started when Reef McCarthy speared off at turn one and his Falcon FG nudged the outside tyre wall. The red flags were out, and the session resumed with five minutes remaining.
Michael Anderson was initially the quickest until trumped by Morris. “I would say that I have done maybe a couple of laps in the wet before,” Morris said. “It was wet out there and that (time) gap is a good gap.”
Tony Auddino (Falcon BF) went third for a brief moment before Jim Pollicina (Holden Commodore VE) went better, then after the checkered flag, David Murphy (FG) pipped them both.
Holden Commodore drivers Paul Boschert and Blake Fardell will start fifth and sixth for race two, behind Murphy and Pollicina while Auddino and Steven Page (VE) snared the next row. Behind them came Elly Morrow (VE), James Masterton (VE) and Jason Foley (BF). Masterton’s session ended with a lose at turn five and contact with the tyre barrier.
Race 2 commences at 2:00pm with TV coverage live on Seven, Fox Sports and Kayo.
