WINTON WIN GIVES DOUGLAS THE 2016 DOUBLE
Douglas is just the fifth driver in Kumho series history to sweep more than one round of the series thanks to an unbroken streak of six-straight wins.
“It was one of those weekends you dream of having Douglas said.
“They dont happen all the time so when you get them you have to celebrate them. The boys at THR gave me an awesome car all weekend and the only thing we changed on it were the tyres.
“It was great straight out of the truck and usually when you have a car like that you have a good weekend. The boys did awesome. I know the track like the back of my hand Ive done a million laps around here so if Im ever going to go well somewhere its here. Roll on the next round.
Karting graduates Josh Smith finished second and Tyler Greenbury third for the round with Douglas well aware that the two young rising stars were set to increase the pressure as the season progressed.
“Theyre capable drivers and really good in go-karts so theyre only going to get better and better throughout the year he explained.
“Im sure that every round isnt going to be like this. We saw in qualifying that Josh was quite close to me and hes only going to get better too. Im expecting them to be a lot closer to me during the races – bring it on!
Douglas led from the outset in Sundays finale while a slow start from Smith saw him drop behind Greenbury in the early stages.
The pair duelled intensely for second place swapping positions twice before the Brad Jones Racing Holden driver was able to pull away to secure the spot in the second half of the race.
Greenbury finished third having scored second in race two on Saturday. It was the young drivers best ever Kumho series result and ensured he jumped to second in the standings.
Smith sits third in the championship while Chris Smerdon is fourth despite failing to finish race three.
The Matt Stone Racing-run Falcon appeared to break a driveshaft on the formation lap with the experienced former Kumho series champion pulling off the road prior to the start of the race despite starting from fourth place.
Matt Chahda stormed from 16th to 4th in his Cavalier Homes BF Falcon rebounding strongly from a non-finish in race one on Saturday and a non-start in race two.
Impressive Kumho series rookie David Wright completed his graduation from Saloon Car racing in style finishing fifth outright in race two and fourth overall for the round on debut.
His ex-FPR Ford Falcon was quick all weekend and the Victorian impressed despite having never started a race in the car prior to the weekend.
Michael Anderson Jack Sipp Anthony Loscialpo Brendan Strong and Simon Emerzidis completed a combative top-10 in race three.
Strong won the Privateers Cup round after round one winner Jim Pollicina struck dramas in his ex-Tasman Motorsport VE Holden.
Pollicina continues to lead the Privateers standings ahead of the impressive Strong with Jason Heck third in the standings despite failing to finish Sundays race.
After two rounds of the 2016 Kumho V8 Touring Cars Series Taz Douglas holds a comfortable 63-point lead over Greenbury in the standings.
The Kumho Series impressed in their first ever championship appearance at a Supercars round the heritage of the cars and close competition entertaining the large crowd and those watching live on FOX Sports.
The Kumho series returns to the Supercars championship at Queensland Raceway this July for round three before visiting Phillip Island and Sydney Motorsport Park at the iconic Australian Muscle Car Masters event to complete the year.
