GARWOOD GETS THE TROPHY AGAIN!

ADAM GARWOOD has rebounded from qualifying dramas to score his third Touring Car Masters victory following a remarkable Dometic Trophy Race today at Queensland Raceway.

The Tasmanian only completed one lap in qualifying before his gearbox broke however once again the young rising star was able to take advantage of a top-10 starting position in the reverse-grid affair to charge through the field.

A late pass on Cameron Mason saw him jump to the lead before he fended off local TransAm racer Shannon O’Brien on the final lap to record his third win in the TCM trophy race and his second this year.

O’Brien was a star performer and charged through the field challenging Garwood for the lead with a bold outside move at turn three on the final lap.

Unfortunately the Queenslander locked his rear brakes and fired off the road and into the gravel – ending his race.

The TransAm regular had however starred during the race with stunning car control and some remarkable moves as he cut his way to the lead of the race.

Garwood ultimately won by just under two seconds with Mason a season-best second and Adam Bressington third having started 14th.

John Bowe and Steve Johnson stormed their way from the last row of the grid to finish fourth and fifth with Ryan Hansford sixth.

Leo Tobin Jason Gomersall Rusty French and Cameron Tilley completed the top-10.

The race started with high drama as Bruce Williams crashed out of the race heavily at turn two.

Darren Beale had spun in front of the field exiting the right-hander causing the field to check up behind.

As Abelnica moved across the road he hit Williams the contact braking the Torana’s steering arm and spearing his car off the road heavily into the concrete barrier on the exit of the corner.

Williams emerged unscathed from his ACDelco Torana while Abelnica was forced to pit with a damaged tyre.

For the Falcon driver a second failure caused by rubbing rear bodywork saw the car out of the race.

Keith Kassulke ran strongly in the top-10 early in the race however was also forced out with a broken throttle.

Earlier in qualifying John Bowe edged out Steve Johnson for pole position for the first of tomorrow’s two championship races – though he had to work for it.

A run late in the session saw the Wilson Security / Payce Torana edge Johnson’s Mustang out for the top spot by a scant 0.0364s the fourth closest margin in the history of the category.

While the famous pair will race from the front row tomorrow a competitive pack will line upj just behind them with just eight-tenths of a second covering the next two rows of the grid.

Eddie Abelnica will start third and Jason Gomersall fourth while Ryan Hansford and Tony Karanfilovski will fill the third row.

Whiteline Racing duo Adam Bressington and Mark King were next with Keith Kassulke and Bruce Williams rounding out the top-10.

Adam Garwood’s Torana broke a gearbox on its second lap of the session relegating the young Tasmanian to the back of the grid for race two.

The field will regroup tomorrow for the pair of championship races both to be shown live on FOX Sports 506.
