Moffat penalised for Race 3 contact at Sandown
JAMES MOFFAT has been penalised 30 seconds for contact with Elliot Barbour at the start of the third Trans Am Series race at Sandown last weekend.
Motorsport Australia confirmed on Wednesday Moffat had accepted the penalty following a post-race investigation.
The pair clashed at turn one on Sunday afternoon, with Barbour spearing off the road and down the order following contact from Moffat’s Mustang.
The penalty drops the Valvoline GRM driver to fourth in the final order for race 3, elevating Lochie Dalton to the win over Cody Gillis and Ben Grice.
Moffat, however, remains the round winner by virtue of the fourth position points coupled with wins in the first two races.
The additional points for winning race three move Dalton to second overall for the round, with Elliot Barbour now third.
Provisionally, the reduction in points reduces to 31 Moffat’s lead over Dalton in the Trans Am Series standings with two rounds remaining, at Race Sydney under lights and at the following Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.
200 points are up for grabs at each round, meaning 12 drivers remain in title contention heading into the back-to-back rounds this November.
