Golding Clinches Bathurst Pole by 0.02 Seconds

James Golding has scored his third pole of the season, taking out the $1000 Trico Pole Award cheque in what was the closest pole-winning margin in Trico Trans Am this year and the third closest in series history.

Series leader Todd Hazelwood, driving for TFH Racing, was just 0.0214-seconds off pole position after qualifying this afternoon.

Golding set a 2m10.6725s lap to pace the 20-car field and will start from pole position for Race 1 tomorrow at 11.50am AEDT with Race 2 to follow at 3.10pm AEDT. Both races will be run over 40 minutes.

But in good news for Hazelwood, his main title rival James Moffat qualified seventh, 0.7096-seconds away from the pole time.

Former Trans Am champion Nathan Herne qualified third fastest, the top three separated by just 0.1391-seconds.

He’ll share row two of the grid with Tim Brook with Jordan Boys and Elliott Cleary to line up on the third row.

Moffat qualified seventh ahead of Elliot Barbour, Edan Thornburrow and Nash Morris.

The fastest Pro Am qualifier was Josh Thomas, who set a 2m14.8585s to be 13th overall.

Next best Pro Am qualifiers were Mark Bailey, Mark Crutcher and West Aussie Brett Niall.
