The Sandown 500 podium finisher recorded a 2m11.7635s lap to set the pace in the one and only practice session for Trans Am at Bathurst ahead of qualifying this afternoon.

Golding was 1.26-seconds quicker than the returning Tim Brook with series points leader Todd Hazelwood third from Nash Morris and reigning Trans Am champ James Moffat.

Bathurst 1000 winner Hazelwood holds a 32-point margin over Moffat’s Garry Rogers Motorsport-run Mustang with two rounds remaining.

Elliot Cleary, Nathan Herne, Eden Thornburrow, Jordan Boys and Brett Holdsworth rounded out the top 10 in practice.

Fastest Pro-Am driver was Josh Thomas, the Queenslander’s TFH Hire Services Mustang setting a 2m15.3697s lap to head the class clear of Mark Crutcher, John Holinger and Mark Bailey.

Pioneer DJ Camaro driver Elliot Barbour failed to turn a lap in the session, his car stopping at the Cutting on the out lap.

The Trans Am cars will return to the track later today at 2.45pm local time for qualifying to determine the grid for tomorrow’s first race.

There will be two races held on Saturday to complete the penultimate round of the series, leaving teams the opportunity to spend Sunday preparing their cars for next weekend’s final round at the VAILO Adelaide 500.
