Golding Shatters Qualifying Record with Storming Lap

James Golding has shattered the existing Trico Trans Am lap record at Phillip Island with a storming lap to take pole position for round three of the series this weekend.

Full results can be found here.

Jordan Boys challenged Golding early in the session, but was unable to go with the Garry Rogers Motorsport driver as the times improved in the closing stages. Golding improved on his sixth and final lap to set a 1:31.3807s, beating Nathan Herne’s record 2022 pole time by 1.5 seconds.

James Moffat leapfrogged his way to second with a late improvement as well, but could only manage a 1:31.7651s. Boys’ time held on for third while his teammate at The Racing Academy, Elliott Cleary, will join him on the second row.

Tim Slade earned fifth on the grid, with the leading Chevrolet Camaro of Elliot Barbour set to line up from sixth. Tom Davies put in his best qualifying effort to date to claim seventh place, ahead of Nathan Herne, Edan Thornburrow and Nash Morris.

Ben Grice missed qualifying due to an engine issue, which has left the All American Driveline & Auto Parts team with a lengthy overnight repair job for race one tomorrow.

Mark Bailey earned his first Pro-Am pole position, in just his second attempt, denying Josh Webster who had topped the times in both practice sessions.

Race one takes place at 2:10pm local time on Saturday. The action will be live and free on both 7plus and 7mate – check local guides for full broadcast times.
