Golding Delivers Ominous Lap Prior to Qualifying

James Golding has left the competition reeling after a storming lap in practice two for the Trico Trans Am Series at Phillip Island.

Full results can be found here.

Golding cleared his nearest rival, teammate James Moffat, by 0.7879 seconds. The nearest non-GRM car was Jordan Boys in third, 1.1918 seconds adrift. The flying lap came at the start of the session, with Golding unable to improve after his second lap.

The bulk of the field set their fastest laps towards the end, after a trip through the pits for adjustments and some for tyres.

Notably, the track had dried out after the early morning rain which threw up a wet track for practice one. Golding’s lap, a 1:32.3428s, eclipses the practice/qualifying lap record off a 1:32.6473s set in 2022 by Nathan Herne.

Nash Morris (twice a winner at Phillip Island in 2023) completed the most laps, with 11, and was seventh fastest. Josh Webster was quickest again in Pro-Am, narrowly ahead of Mark Bailey.

Ben Grice, who cut just three laps in practice one, was only able to manage two laps in the session with oil pump problems. The All American Driveline & Auto Parts entry is now in a race against the clock for qualifying.

The battle for the Trico Pole Award kicks off at 4:30pm local time.
