Moffat Leads Golding to Opening Race Victory
James Moffat has taken the first Trico Trans Am Series race victory of 2024, beating out pole-sitter James Golding in an enthralling opener to the season.
Moffat got the jump on Golding as the lights went out, the pair running side-by-side through turn one and Moffat prevailing around the outside. Tim Slade made a quick start deep in the pack, making contact with the back of Tom Hayman as the lights went out, and picking up four spots on lap one.
The Safety Car was called for Hayman when he stopped on the back straight, with his engine letting go. The field resumed for a sprint to the finish, Moffat defending heavily from Golding who was unable to find a way through.
Drama unfolded down the order, when Ben Grice was turned sideways in front of Tom Davies, Edan Thornburrow and Jackson Rice. The latter duo made contact exiting turn four, up against the inside barrier. The accident continued all the way down at turn nine, when Thornburrow ran into Rice, turning him around to be collected by Davies.
Rice finished a lap down, with Davies joining Hayman in the DNF column.
Nash Morris followed the leading pair to the chequered flag, with Jordan Boys fourth on debut and Elliot Barbour fifth.
