Clay Richards Teams up with Carl Cox Motorsport

Clay Richards will drive for a third different Manufacturer in just 12 months when he lines up in the Carl Cox Motorsport Cupra Leon at Sandown Raceway in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

The 23-year-old made his TCR Australia debut at Winton in 2023, racing a Melbourne Performance Centre Audi RS3 LMS SEQ. The weekend proved a breakout success for the third-generation racer who stormed to a second-place finish in race two.

Richards returned to the field at Sandown later in the year, this time driving a Peugeot 308 TCR prepared by Garry Rogers Motorsport. The weekend giving Richards valuable experience as he prepares to take on Sandown once again, this time in a Cupra.

The Carl Cox Motorsport entry will be run by MPC, with Richards linking back up with the squad for which he made his TCR Australia.

Round one of the 2024 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will be live and free on the Seven Network, with the action taking place at Sandown Raceway from February 9-11 as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.

“To race for someone as well-known as Carl Cox, and his team, is something I’m really looking forward to and will grab with both hands,” said Richards.

“I drove the Peugeot at Sandown last year, so I’ve got some experience on what TCR is like around there. I’ve done a bit in the Audi as well and the Cupra is pretty similar to the Audi, it’s got the same running gear, so that’s another bonus.

“I haven’t done a test day in the Cupra, but hopefully it will be familiar, and I can get up to speed quite quickly. I don’t have any expectations at the moment. I’m just going in aiming to finish every race, and every session, learn as much as we can and do the best we can. Just a big thanks to Carl Cox Motorsport, CASE and all our sponsors for the opportunity,” concluded Richards.
