Pole Award, Prizes Announced for 2024 Trans Am Season

2024 will see a Pole Award introduced to Trans Am for the first time, with the prizes for the series’ class winners also announced.

At each round on the 2024 calendar the fastest qualifier will earn the Trans Am Pole Award, worth $1,000. There have been nine different pole-sitters so far in Trans Am, four of which all came in a highly competitive 2023 season, James Moffat, Lochie Dalton, Cody Gillis and Ben Grice all achieving the feat last year.

The outright series winner will receive free series entry to the 2025 season, with drivers and teams vying to stop Moffat from taking back-to-back titles. Herne won for Dream Racing in 2021, before switching to the Dandenong squad for 2022 and winning again. Moffat then steered that same chassis to a GRM one-two in the 2023 season.

The new Pro-Am class will see the winner take home free entry to the first three rounds of the 2025 season. The Hoosier Cup and Masters Cup were both won by Craig Scutella in 2023, with the two classes not returning for 2024.

Drivers under the age of 25 will also be eligible for the Hoosier Young Gun Award, with the top driver at each round earning the award. The top three at the end of the season will also be recognised at the awards nights, with the winner to receive six free tyres per round throughout the 2025 season.

The streamlined class structure combines to set up another engaging season of Trans Am racing, with a seven round calendar culminating in just the series’ second visit to a street circuit at the VAILO Adelaide 500.

Race Sandown hosts the season opener from February 9-11 as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries. All the action will be live and free on the Seven Network.

Graham Sattler, Trans Am Category Manager
“The prizes on offer are a fantastic reward for the drivers who are able to deliver across the season,” said Sattler.

“We’re particularly excited to introduce the pole award for this season. Our qualifying sessions have always been extremely exciting, and as we saw in 2023, they’ve offered up a great deal of unpredictability. To have that prize for the fastest qualifier should be a nice incentive for drivers to give that extra 10 percent.

“The drivers and teams are working hard for round one, and we should have a great field at Sandown, a good mix of youth and experience for one of the most exciting categories in the country,” concluded Sattler.
