Brown Reacts to World Final Qualification
Inaugural Supercheap Auto TCR Australia series winner Will Brown has added another feather to his cap, finishing the Kumho TCR World Tour as the highest placed Australian and 10th overall.
It was a remarkable showing at Sydney Motorsport Park that propelled Brown to the highest placing of any driver not contesting the full World Tour schedule.
“That was awesome, winning two races and to end up 10th in the overall standings is awesome,” said Brown.
“It’s great to know how good you are within Australia, but that was an opportunity to shape up against the world. The World Final would be another chance to do that, this time on their tracks. I’d kept up with the results before they came out and knew it would be highly competitive.
“There wasn’t much surprise in how the whole category performed though, we’ve seen Ben Bargwanna and Dylan O’Keeffe both go overseas in TCR and do very well this year and in the past. The Aussie drivers have always held up really well against international competition.”
After a start to the season plagued by mechanical problems, the World Tour provided a platform for Brown to secure a spot at the TCR World Ranking Final, with the top 15 in the World Tour points earning an automatic spot in the March 1-3 Portimão finale.
The Liqui-Moly backed driver began his 2023 resurgence at Queensland Raceway, dominating the weekend from the outset, taking pole by 0.7377s and winning two races. Brown earned two more podiums before arriving at SMP and taking the first two races of the weekend.
“Obviously I’m always interested in trying to do stuff like this, but it’s just a case of logistics. Is there a car over there we can use, how are we going to run it, and those sorts of things. At the least, whoever wins the series here should have the ability to go over there and race.
“That chance would further shape up the category as a place you can hone your skills, develop, and then have that chance to race outside. We already saw it a bit this year, which is great.
“The toughest thing is the drivers overseas race a lot more than most of us, and that extra seat time leads to them going a lot better more often than not. We’ll have to wait and see, if we can make it over, or someone else, but I think we’d fair up pretty well,” concluded Brown.
