Dream Racing Australia enter Sydney in title contention

Dream Racing Australia enters the penultimate round of the National Trans Am Series in title contention following a shake up of the standings following the previous event at Sandown.

It’s an expanded effort for Dream Racing Australia at Sydney Motorsport Park as rookie Josh Webster and Team Owner Craig Scutella are joined by American Robert Noaker, who returns to Australia after racing at last year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.

Webster enters the round second in the standings following a shake up after the previous round at Sandown trailing the series leader by 21-points. It will be the first time Webster has driven at Sydney Motorsport Park, but as demonstrated throughout the season he has been up to the challenge.

Noaker will also make his debut at Sydney Motorsport Park as he doubles up to contest the finale at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International the following weekend at the circuit he made a cameo at last year.

Masters Cup leader Craig Scutella will have stiff competition at Sydney Motorsport Park as he aims to maintain his lead at the top of the class standings, while continuing to sit top five in the outright title.

Sydney Motorsport Park is a two-day event ensuring a jammed packed schedule leading into a 50-minute practice session, qualifying and four races, three of which will be held at night.

“It was this time last year we announced our plans to contest Trans Am, I didn’t think 12 months on we’d be second in the series standings,” said Webster.

“Finishing races has been our strong suit, Dream Racing Australia has given me a good car making my job easier.

“I’ve had a heap of in-car to look at, so I know all the brake markers and everything, but I’ve never seen the track before.

“It will be good to get to the track and experience it, especially to see if the tyre degradation is really as bad as what has been said before. At the previous rounds we’ve always had a car that looks after its tyres well, so I think we’ll come on strong as the event progresses.

“I haven’t done any racing under lights, only road driving! It will be a new experience for me and Friday night is going to be a bit of an eye opener.”

“I’ve watched races online at Sydney Motorsport Park across multiple categories and it seems like a great track,” Noaker said.

“It has a first turn, which seems to be just a slight dab of the brakes and you just send it in there. Unlike Bathurst, there aren’t many concrete walls close to the track to punish you and I’m really looking forward to having a crack at Sydney Motorsport Park.

“I’ve done some racing under lights, there’s a track out in California called Thunderhill that holds a 25 hour race every year and I’ve contested it two years in a row driving a Mazda MX-5. Earlier this year I raced at Daytona, which will be a bit closer to the lighting of Sydney again in a Mazda, which is a bit different to a Trans Am.

“Racing at night in one of these cars will be cool.

“I can’t thank Dream Racing Australia for inviting me back.”
