Tilley adapting to life in V8TC with recent success

Notlaw Racing’s Jamie Tilley has been adapting to life in a Supercar as of late, clawing his way back into Kumho V8 Touring Car Series title contention ahead of the penultimate round at Sandown International Raceway next month.

After starting the new era of V8 Touring Cars with a DNF at Phillip Island back in May, Tilley has since posted a consistent haul of podium finishes, having only finished outside of the top three on a single occasion.

As a result of his two round wins at Queensland Raceway, the New South Welshman also finds himself back within 50 points of series leader, Jude Bargwanna with only two rounds remaining.

Tickets for Sandown International Raceway are available at motorsporttickets.com.au.

While his success comes off the back of his natural ability to adapt to the challenges of the Ford Falcon FG, his increase in confidence he has been major contributor to his recent performances.

“I have really been enjoying the year, I was a little bit upset with how we started the year at Phillip Island but apart from that everything has gone well and we are having lots of fun,” Tilley said.

“I have started feeling a lot more comfortable in the car as of late, especially since the last round where I was able to pick up a couple of wins.

“Everything about the series is still new to me and the team, but with that in consideration, I am still able to get a lot more out of the car compared to the start of the year, which came into play in the last round.

“It was good to close the gap to Jude (Bargwanna). After I stalled on the start line in that final race, I thought I was going to be running at the rear of the grid by myself, but when everyone else had a few dramas, I stuck to it and found myself back at the front with a couple of laps to go.

“Overall, I try not to think about the title race too much – I’m just taking it race by race and the points will handle themselves.”

With the upcoming round at Sandown International Raceway fast approaching, Tilley will rely on previous experiences at the circuit to ensure he continues his run of good results.

“I don’t have huge goals set for Sandown, I’m not very familiar with the track so for now its key to just keep out of trouble and see where we end up,” Tilley explained.

“I’ve ran once in a Group N car there and once in my Touring Car Masters car, it was raining all weekend last time so I got thrown in the deep end a little bit, but it will be a lot faster in the Supercar and I’ll have to adapt like I usually do.”

The Kumho V8 Touring Car Series will take the track at Sandown International Raceway for the penultimate round of its season on 8-10 September.
