Brown Blazes to Queensland Pole
Will Brown has continued his blistering weekend in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, storming to pole position at Queensland Raceway for MPC Team LIQUI MOLY.
The 2019 TCR Australia champion has been in imperious form all weekend, finishing at the top of the timesheets in both practice sessions on Friday, and topping both qualifying sessions today.
Brown put just over a quarter of a second of the field in Qualifying One with his time of 1m 14.0330s, finishing ahead of Tony D’Alberto’s Honda and Josh Buchan’s Hyundai i30 Sedan N.
The hard luck story of Qualifying One was Team Valvoline GRM’s Aaron Cameron, who will start from the rear of the field in this afternoon’s first race after sustaining damage to the left front corner of his Peugeot 308.
Cameron’s Garry Rogers Motorsport stablemate Kody Garland also missed the cut to make Qualifying Two in eleventh, with Brad Harris the meat in a Peugeot sandwich starting twelfth.
In a similar fashion to Friday’s second practice session, Brown went quicker in Qualifying Two, setting a 1m 13.7221s to claim pole by just under two tenths of a second from championship leader Bailey Sweeny’s Hyundai i30 N.
D’Alberto dropped to third, however was also in the 1m 13s range, and is shaping to be a contender this weekend having won two of the three races at Queensland Raceway last year.
The top five was rounded out by the Lynk & Co of Tim Slade and the Peugeot of Jordan Cox, who came into the weekend third in the points standings.
The remainder of the top ten consists of Ben Bargwanna, Zac Soutar, Josh Buchan, Michael Clemente, and Lachlan Mineeff.
The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series returns to the track for Race One at 4:15pm.
