Sydney schedule set

THE SCHEDULE for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS debut at Sydney Motorsport Park has been locked in.

While top-level national GT racing has competed at the Western Sydney circuit previously, the July 28-30 event represents the first time the series will have visited the circuit in its current incarnation.

The last time ‘Australian GT’ raced at the circuit was in 2018, with the weekend captured by Liam Talbot in a Porsche.

Five years later, Talbot is a leading contender in this year’s title race driving an Audi R8.

It’s set to be a critical weekend for the championship with valuable championship points up for grabs as the season heads into the deciding rounds.

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia grid will be on show alongside a packed program at the Beurepairs Sydney SuperNight event, which includes the Repco Supercars Championship, S5000 Australian Drivers Championship, Porsche Sprint Challenge and Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 Series action.

A busy Friday program will see two 40-minute practice sessions completed before lunch, with qualifying 1 and 2 to follow later that afternoon.

Race 1 starts at 2:55pm local time and runs for 60 minutes, while Sunday’s one hour finale’ starts at 10:35am.

Both races will have live coverage on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports next weekend.

The full Sydney Motorsport Park entry list will be released later this week.
