Fisher claims opening TCM account at Winton
Andrew Fisher has taken out the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters Trophy Race after a convincing performance at the Winton Raceway.
The Jesus Racing entry finished just over three seconds ahead of Adam Garwood in his Holden Commodore, while R&J Batteries/Action Motor’s Marcus Zukanovic rounded out the top three after returning from a 14-month absence due to injury.
In what was the series’ first encounter of the weekend, Fisher found himself in the lead after a chaotic rolling start played out behind, seeing Dupulu Wheels Gold Coast’s Peter Burnitt and SNB Berryman Racing’s Warren Trewin come together.
Both cars were able to recover without any safety car intervention, paving the way for Rare Spares /Paynter Dixon’s John Bowe to make up three places in only a matter of corners.
The experienced Bowe was able to make his way up to as high as second place, maintaining the position for the majority of the race before dropping down the order in the dying stages – cruising to the finish line in eighth place.
Western General Body Works Danny Buzadzic came home in fourth, while series leader Steve Johnson stormed his Hancock Racing Ford Mustang TransAm into fifth after starting the race from 12th.
Cameron Tilley finished in sixth in his Valiant Pacer, able to recover after the Anglomoil Superior Lubricants entry endured a troubled start to the race.
Multispares Racing’s Ryan Hansford was unable to work his way through the grid after finishing where he started in 10th, just behind Daimler Trucks Adelaide entry Geoff Fane in ninth.
The Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters will once again line up on the grid at 2:50pm AEST for race one.
