Audi dominate qualifying in Perth

JAMEC Racing’s Geoff Emery and Shannons Insurance driver Max Hofer have split the poles in a dominating performance for Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia at CARCO.com.au Raceway.

Emery led the way in the JAMEC Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo2 in the opening 10-minute qualifying session for the Am drivers. The three-time GT champion set a 53.860s to lead Shannons Insurance’s Liam Talbot by 0.319s as Brad Schumacher completed an Audi clean-sweep of the top three.

The first non-Audi was reigning double series winner Yasser Shahin in the EMA Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3R leading a brace of Mercedes-AMGs starting with the Triple Eight Race Engineering duo of Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim leading brother Prince Jefri. Harrolds Volante Rosso Motorsport’s Ross Poulakis completed the Mercedes-AMG trio in eighth.

Matt Stoupas in the KFC Audi, Michael Kokkinos driving the similar Launch Racing/MC Labour example and Tony Bates piloting the striking Makita Mercedes-AMG GT3.

In the second session for the Pro drivers, Hofer placed the Shannons Insurance Audi on pole setting a 53.159 to lower the lap record for GT racing at CARCO.com.au Raceway.

Hofer shaded Jamie Whincup by 0.150s as Jordan Love partnering Bates was third at his home event, with yesterday’s pacesetter Christopher Mies demoted to fourth.

Jayden Ojeda in his first weekend of GT racing was fifth from Richie Stanaway, Garnet Patterson, Brad Schumacher, Glen Wood and Paul Stokell.

The opening race of the weekend at CARCO.com.au Raceway commences this afternoon at 12:25pm AWST or 2:25pm AEST.
