Retro liveries to shine amidst Super3 Bathurst field

RETRO and often iconic liveries will feature in the Dunlop Super3 Series field when it hits the track tomorrow (Thursday) at Mount Panorama for Round 5 of the 2022 Championship.

Along with existing cars sporting their original colours, two additional cars will have been returned to their original schemes ahead of the two races this weekend.

Among them will be David Murphy’s FG Ford Falcon, an ex-Triple Eight Race Engineering car that has been returned to its original Team Vodafone livery.

The car was raced by Craig Lowndes in the 2009 season in the team’s final year as a Ford outfit before switching brands at the end of that season.

Another famous Ford has reverted to an original livery, Ray Hislop’s ex-Ford Performance Racing car presented this weekend in it’s unique 2012 Bathurst livery.

FPR ran a tribute to Ford’s remarkable 1977 1-2 result in 2012, with both cars sporting the throwback scheme that included the blue and red stripes along the flanks of the cars, plus the black bonnet.

Hislop sports the Orrcon Steel logos on the side along with his existing supporters on what was previously an all-blue Falcon.

In the hands of Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards, the car qualified third, lined-up fourth following the Shootout and finished the race in 11th position sporting its throwback livery.

Murphy and Hislop join Jim Pollicina in running their cars in period-correct or throwback style liveries this year – Pollicina’s ex Triple Eight Holden Commodore running the HDT-throwback scheme throughout the 2022 season.

The Dunlop Super3 Series field will tackle two races at Mount Panorama this weekend – the first on Friday at 3:10pm and the second on Saturday, commencing at 4:00pm local time.

Practice, qualifying and both races will be shown live on Fox Sports 506, Kayo Sports with racing also shown live on the Seven Network this weekend.
