Hansford strikes back to claim Sandown finale’

RYAN HANSFORD’S 100th Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters race was a challenge – but his 101st was a much better affair as the Multispares Racing Holden Torana driver charged to victory.

Starting seventh, Hansford was a man on a mission early in the final race and charged his way to the rear of Adam Bressington’s Whiteline Racing Chevrolet Camaro in the early stages.

He moved to second with a wild pass around the outside of George Miedecke at turn six, before repeating the move on Bressington a lap later to grab a lead he’d never lose.

Bressington held on to the Torana in the closing stages but had no answer in the end, Hansford taking his ninth TCM race victory in style.

Bressington was second while Andrew Fisher pipped Miedecke for third position at the line in a close finish for third.

In the round results, Bressington won the weekend ahead of Miedecke and Hansford in a 1-2 result for Whiteline Racing’s Chevrolet Camaro’s.

It was especially sweet for the Adelaide team who completed an incredible rebuild on the #95 Camaro between rounds following the heavy Townsville incident.

Steven Johnson’s TCM return ended on a positive note with fifth in the final race in the #33 Ford Mustang, while Tony Karanfilovski completed a strong weekend in sixth.

Jamie Tilley was next while John Bowe slipped down the order to finish an uncharacteristic eighth in his Rare Spares Torana.

Jim Pollicina and Cameron McConville completed the top-10, the latter recovering from a broken gearbox in the earlier race today.
