Dylan O’Keeffe aims to bounce back at Sandown

Entering Supercheap Auto TCR Australia’s return to Queensland Raceway second in the standings, the trip up north was a tough one for Dylan O’Keeffe.

Holding a good history at the venue where last time O’Keeffe scored two wins out of three, a tilt at the series lead was the target. However, it proved a difficult weekend for O’Keeffe and the quartet of Garry Rogers Motorsport Peugeot 308 TCRs at Ipswich.

Starting the weekend second in the standings and just 24-points behind leader Tony D’Alberto, O’Keeffe is now trailing by 100 in seventh.

“We just never got on top of the car all weekend, it was a real puzzle,” O’Keeffe said.

“Every time we made a change to improve the car in one area, it made it worse in other areas – it was very frustrating.”

Highlighting the struggles early, O’Keeffe tried to get as much out of the package as possible, but a hole in the radiator ended in a costly retirement.

“During practice on Friday, we thought we were heading in the right direction, but the changes we made for qualifying didn’t really work and I qualified well down the order,” O’Keeffe said.

“We didn’t have the speed to challenge the front-runners, but the DNF in Race 2 was especially costly for the championship.

“Coming into last weekend, we had built a strong campaign on the back of our consistency but I’m now in a position where I really have to attack hard in the last two rounds and go for wins.”

Approaching his home round at Sandown, O’Keeffe is working hard to ensure he has the best opportunity to score his first victory this year at what promises to be an exciting penultimate round.

“We’ll be working hard before the next round at Sandown to tune up the car and make sure we’re back up the front where we belong,” emphasised O’Keeffe.

The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series continues together with the SpeedSeries at Sandown on September 16-18.
