Brodie Kostecki to make Turtle Wax Trans Am Series debut
Supercars rising star Brodie Kostecki will swap his regular Holden ZB Commodore for a Chevrolet Camaro in the next round of the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series at Queensland Raceway this weekend.
As part of the SpeedSeries on Stan Sport, Kostecki will drive Tim Shaw’s Camaro Trans Am entry which was originally slated for Shane van Gisbergen to race at the Ipswich track. SVG’s drive in the V8-powered class was halted, however, when his Supercars team rejected his opportunity to race.

Kostecki’s car will be supported by Boost Mobile, the backer of his Supercars Championship entry.
Extra support for his entry includes Southern Cross Truck Rentals, Supercheap Auto, Method Wheels and Raw Metal.
The drive will mark Kostecki’s debut in the Trans Am Series, although it will not be his first time in this style of race car.
It is a return to his American roots after the West Australian pursued a career in NASCAR where he contested the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East for two part seasons.
He returned to Australia soon after where he climbed the ladder to Supercars, now a full-time driver for Erebus Motorsport and regarded as one of the rising stars of Australian motorsport.
A versatile driver, Kostecki has raced in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, scoring class victory alongside mentor Paul Morris. Kostecki also regularly competes in speedway and is an ace sim racer, winning the opening two rounds of the recent Supercars Eseries.
The Shaw Motorsport Chevrolet Camaro is prepared out of the Norwell Motorplex stables and will operate alongside protégé Nash Morris in the Supercheap Auto Trans Am entry.
The round will mark the maiden appearance for Turtle Wax Trans Am at Queensland Raceway. Garry Rogers Motorsport pair Owen Kelly and Nathan Herne are separated by six points at the top of the standings, with Wall Racing’s Tim Brook a further 11 points behind. A tight pack led by TPS Racing driver and former Shaw Motorsport driver Brett Holdsworth still remain in contention.
Kostecki’s addition into the field further adds quality and ensures the SpeedSeries event at Queensland Raceway on August 5-7 is one not to be missed.
Also on the bill for the SpeedSeries round includes the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series, Australian Production Car Series, GC Marine Australian Prototype Series and Radical Australia Cup.

“The Trans Am cars are pretty similar to what I drove in the States a few years ago,” said Kostecki.
“They have the same tyre and the cars are built relatively the same. It might take me a little while to get back in the swing of it, but I’m really looking forward to it.
“It’s exciting to get the call up for Tim to drive his car. I will race anything with four wheels and a roof. That’s what I’m all about.
“I love hard racing, and this is a very competitive series up front. It’s great that I have the chance to dip my toes in a new class and have a go.
“I’m pretty competitive, I want to go and do the best I can. I want to come home with a trophy, but we’ll see how the weekend unfolds.”

“In the wake of SVG being restricted, the opportunity came up for Brodie to drive my Trans Am car,” said Shaw.
“During a conversation with Barry Ryan (Erebus Motorsport team principal), it seemed like a good fit. Brodie did a couple of seasons in NASCAR style cars. He is a very talented driver and has a good relationship with the team at Norwell Motorplex, where our car is based.
“Barry is a hardcore racer and keen to promote his drivers. He wants to see his drivers in race cars and see them get miles. Will Brown races in TCR, so this is not a strange thing for him to allow his drivers to sample other, different machinery.
“The more they race, the more the drivers and their teams build their fanbase. I love Brodie and Barry’s attitude, it’s great for motorsport.”
