New support and worthy cause spearhead Audi contenders title tilt

Leading Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS contenders Liam Talbot and Fraser Ross will enter the second round of their campaign with new support.

Talbot won one race and was second in the other at Phillip Island’s opening round alongside star driver Chaz Mostert to enter Queensland Raceway equal on points with last year’s winner Yasser Shahin.

Ross will return to partner in the class Talbot after missing the Phillip Island event as the pair’s regular Melbourne Performance Centre-prepared Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II. The pair was joined by Mostert for this year’s LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour, with the entry taking pole and was a contender throughout the day until it retired.

Talbot and Ross are aiming to bounce back at Queensland Raceway, with new sponsor Gtechniq onboard.

Featuring a range of composite ceramic coatings, leather protection, fabric protection, wheel and trim protection, shampoos and many more products, Gtechniq celebrates two decades of innovation, the pair’s new race number of 20 paying homage to this.

Long-time supporter of motorsport, Shannons Insurance has also joined in the pair’s quest for the title.

The team has a special charity partner for the round, the #BinTheBladeForBalin founded to honour Queensland knife violence victim Balin Stewart.

The main goal for the movement is to persuade owners of a knife to ‘bin it’. If a knife isn’t present during an altercation, it cannot cause any harm. Further to this aim, the goal is to educate and forewarn youths about the dangers and consequences that a simple act of violence can have.

As well as the pain experienced by the victim’s family, most young people don’t realise the ripple effect that a spur-of-the-moment decision can have on their own relatives, friends and future.

A strong field for the return of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS competition is entered for Round 2 at Queensland Raceway as part of the SpeedSeries on August 5-7.

#20 Gtechniq Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II

“We’ve come off the back of an up and down weekend at Bathurst. Liam’s leading the title so hopefully we can have some good success, last time we paired up we won the round at Bathurst in December.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Queensland Raceway, so I’m looking forward to going there and the Audi seems to be the car to have at the moment. Every time we get it out of the truck it is always there or thereabouts and I’m looking forward to re-joining the MPC crew.

“Our major sponsor is Gtechniq, which is an innovative car care brand focused on smart surface science.

“It’s there 20 years of innovation anniversary, so there’s been a number switch to 20 from 65, which was my old karting number.

“Shannons Insurance is quite a special brand to have onboard given its rich heritage and real prominence within the automotive industry.

“It’s great to get the word out about #BinTheBladeForBalin to try and stop the knife violence amongst teens.”
