RAM Motorsport ready to resume Am Class attack in Queensland
In one of the more dramatic build ups in LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour history, RAM Motorsport and GWR Australia were in a race against time to acquire a Mercedes-AMG GT3 following a pre-event testing incident.
With the help of fellow Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS squad, Melbourne-based Harrolds, a Mercedes-AMG GT3 was available albeit not set up to endurance specifications and work was done to get the parts required to make this happen explained RAM Motorsport’s Michael Sheargold.

“We moved heaven and earth to make that happen,” explained Sheargold.
“We could not have done it without a lot of help and things lining up. HWA was amazing, the Harrolds guys, Peter Hackett, everyone was helping us out to get us on the grid once we discovered the regular Mercedes wasn’t repairable. Even the signwriter came in at midnight.
“The new Mercedes was only in sprint specification, so there was still a whole lot of work needed to be done to get it set for the Bathurst 12 Hour, it wasn’t straight off the shelf ready to go.
“There weren’t many kilometres on it and it was in good nick, but a bigger fuel tank, drink system, cool suit box needed to be fitted.
“We only received the Mercedes on the Sunday before, on Mother’s Day. Even the tow truck driver skipped lunch with his family to pick it up in Melbourne to drive to Sydney and you have to appreciate that.
“I dropped into GWR Australia’s workshop after a work meeting to drop in some lollies and Red Bulls to keep the crew going.”
Although the LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour ended in retirement for entry shared by Sheargold, Garth Walden and GT Trophy contender Brett Hobson, the team is focused on the upcoming Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS round at Queensland Raceway.
“Our main focus is to get the new Mercedes back on track, which we hope to do so for Queensland Raceway,” Sheargold explained.
“One of the key reasons I did the 12 Hour was to get a good result in the GT World Challenge Australia Endurance segment, but it wasn’t the outcome we wanted.
“We’re very focused on that series and we’re well placed in the Sprint campaign.”
Sheargold and Walden are just four points behind Audi’s Matt Stoupas in the Am Class heading to Queensland Raceway as part of the SpeedSeries on August 5-7.
