Allen sets the pace in Super3 Townsville Practice

Eggleston Motorsport’s Kai Allen (Holden Commodore VE) continued his great form in his debut season in Dunlop Super 3.

He set the fastest times in both practice sessions on the streets of Townsville for round three with his best lap of 1 minute 16.3140 seconds in the second session undercutting the race record by almost a second.

RESULTS: Dunlop Super3, Practice

Allen was also just 1.1 seconds behind the fastest car in Dunlop Super2 showing how competitive his older-model VE Commodore is relative to the later-spec cars at the pointy-end of the DS2 grid.

Second fastest was Brad Vaughan in the Anderson Motorsport Ford Falcon FG, half a second behind.

The South Australian driver was on a quicker lap however the car broke the driveshaft and forced him out of any further running in practice two.

His time held him in good stead the be in front of Blake Fardell (Muscle Car Warehouse VE), Jason Gomersall (Unit Racing FG), Jim Pollicina (Mocomm VE) and Chris Smerdon (Vectra Corp FG).

Behind Jarred Danaher in his Turbo Brisbane FG, Garry Hills was eight fastest overall – but the second outing was shortened due to left front suspension damage.

He finished ahead of David Murphy who is running his FG Falcon out of the Eggleston garage this weekend.

Ray Hislop (FG) missed the first session with a throttle butterfly problem that caused an engine misfire, and had limited time in the second after hitting a kerb and damaging the front suspension.

He was tenth fastest ahead of Tony Auddino (Falcon BF), Layton Barker (VE) on his first session time as he didn’t turn a lap in the second, Shane Beikoff (Falcon AU) and James Masterton (VE).

The Dunlop Super3 Series field returns to the track on Saturday at the NTI Townsville 500 for qualifying and the first of two races this weekend.

Qualifying will be shown live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports, while the race will also be broadcast live on Channel 7.
