Aaron Cameron one to watch as season enters run home
This season has been one of ‘what ifs’ so far for rising star Aaron Cameron.
Although he has taken a pole position and two race victories in 2022, Cameron sits sixth in the points courtesy of two turbo related retirements occurring during the opening pair of rounds.

Cameron can be credited for developing the Peugeot package into a consistent, but quick package as the 308 TCR has become one of the strongest in the field.
Entering his second season with Garry Rogers Motorsport and Valvoline, Cameron led the way in his Peugeot to finish the season runner up to Melbourne Performance Centre’s Chaz Mostert in the Audi RS3 LMS TCR.
Starting off with fifth in the opening race at AWC Race Tasmania, Cameron was out in Race 2 due to a turbo failure before clawing his way back to ninth.
Phillip Island was the scene of Peugeot’s first win last year in the hands of Jason Bargwanna, but Cameron was unable to replicate this finishing sixth and 10th, which sandwiched another turbo failure in Race 2.
Just like in 2021, Easter at Bathurst provided a turning point for Cameron as he scorched around the Mountain in 2m 12s before taking two wins and a ninth at the end of frantic Race 2 where he collided with teammate Jordan Cox and HMO Customer Racing’s Josh Buchan.
Second at Sydney Motorsport Park provided a strong start, but a slow start during the inverted top 10 Race 2 hurt Cameron badly as he failed to make considerable ground through the field during the remainder of the weekend.
Although the early retirements have proven costly so far, the Peugeot package has proven to be a race winner and Cameron knows it like the back of his hand.
At this stage last year Mostert held a large advantage, but the chase for the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia title is as close as ever and Cameron is just 57-points in arrears of leader Tony D’Alberto.
The only disadvantage Cameron has is the Peugeot has not raced at Queensland Raceway, although he did during the inaugural season in 2019.
Cameron is another to rule out of contention at your peril.
Supercheap Auto TCR Australia continues its season as part of the SpeedSeries at Queensland Raceway on August 5-7.
