Hyundai voted most popular TCR brand by SpeedSeries fans
The most winningest brand is also the most popular in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia according to the results of the latest SpeedSeries poll.
Hyundai convincingly won the poll with 44 percent of the vote, released on speedseries.com.au straight after HMO Customer Racing’s successes at Sydney Motorsport Park, the fourth round of the series.
Through its N Series line of performance variants, Hyundai has built up a loyal following and this was displayed in the poll.
Also, the Korean brand is the most populous on the grid as factory supported team HMO Customer Racing enter three i30N TCRs for Josh Buchan, Nathan Morcom and impressive rookie Bailey Sweeny, while Brad Shiels spearheads the privateer Royal Purple Racing example as rounding out the representatives is Luke King in the Moutai/ZIPPAY sponsored DashSport entry.
A remarkable 13 wins have been scored by Hyundai drivers during the two and a half years of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia competition as Will Brown’s eight during the inaugural season remains the benchmark.
Second most popular brand in the poll was a surprising one, but Renault featuring 19 percent of the vote.
Although demonstrating pace at times, the Garry Rogers Motorsport Renault Megane R.S. has proven to be fragile. It is yet to take a victory, but has visited the podium quite a few times ensuring it is a competitive package.
Then it was a close contest for the remaining positions as just five percent covered the remaining manufacturers.
Leading the charge is this year’s form brand in Peugeot (10 percent) as Honda (eight percent) led a close contest in the voting from Alfa Romeo and Volkswagen on equal seven percent (though the Italian brand had three more votes).
Finally, Audi completed the poll on five percent despite Chaz Mostert winning last year’s title in a Melbourne Performance Centre-prepared RS3 LMS TCR.
