GT3 expansion on the radar for Tickford Racing

Tickford Racing owner Rod Nash has signalled the team’s intent to expand after it doubled the size of its Campbellfield workshop recently.

Nash expressed his enthusiasm in adding to Tickford racing’s repertoire by using the team’s extensive engineering resource to design and engineer for various companies, which includes the potential to oversee a local customer racing arm.

It wasn’t ruled out running a Tickford Racing GT3 program, joining the likes of Triple Eight Race Engineering and Grove Motorsport.

With the new Gen3 regulations set to reduce the team’s Supercars-based engineering work, it opens the door for Tickford Racing to expand its various services.

Speaking to Auto Action, Nash declared GT3 as the most viable option for the team to expand into providing multiple benefits.

“GT3 is on our radar. We’re looking at opportunities there,” Nash told Auto Action.

“GT3 has expanded opportunities, there is a lot of value we can add. And we can also bring opportunities to our table to enhance our business services.

“We see there are a lot of opportunities in GT3, not just in Australia but in Asia as well. We’re looking at those.”

Nash also explained Tickford Racing are not committed to any GT3 manufacturer and will consider every possible avenue.

“There are other brands involved in GT3 and that keeps varying. We’re trying to be more generic in how we look at it,” Nash explained.

“We’ll end up landing somewhere. Aston Martin has been attached to Prodrive (the historic start of the Tickford operation) over time and that’s certainly an area we’re looking at.

“Ford has plans. And GT3 is predominately in the Porsche arena, so there are always options there. That could be directly through Porsche or externally.”

The next round of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS is as part of the SpeedSeries at Queensland Raceway on August 5-7.
