“We took on the challenge to develop a successor to the highly successful first-generation BMW M4 GT4,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW Motorsport (BMW M).

“Using a wide range of customer feedback, our experienced development team and the new sixth generation BMW M4 based production car has led to a faster, even more reliable and very emotional all new BMW M4 GT4.”

The previous M4 GT4 has raced on Australian shores previously, winning its class at the LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour and is a more than capable opponent to the Mercedes-AMG GT4 currently contesting the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS.

Four key areas have been improved in the new model: performance, reliability, cost efficiency and maintainability. Ergonomics for the driver have also been updated as has the electronics in an effort to improve the customer experience making this a worthy successor to the previous model.

There is also a transfer of technology between the GT4 and GT3 models of the M4, while there are road car components have been also adapted.

Awaiting homologation by the SRO, it is expected the M4 GT4 will feature in competition worldwide as it will again take on the legendary Nordschleife soon alongside an entry into the 24 Hours of Portimao.

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS continues at Queensland Raceway as part of the SpeedSeries on August 5-7.
