Berryman to return to S5000 for Darwin finale’

TIM BERRYMAN will return to the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship at the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown next week.

The New South Wales driver, an ‘S5000 original’ who took part in the categories first race in 2019, will drive the second ALABAR / Form 700 car for Team BRM at Hidden Valley next week.

Berryman raced in the championships first ever event at Sandown in late 2019, however throughout the Pandemic elected to focus on his farming business and his family.

He is, however, vastly experienced in wings and slicks competition with prior success in Formula 3 and historic S5000 cars – including the ex-Alan Jones / Teddy Yip Lola T332 – for some time.

His long-time backer, Delta Agribusiness, will also support his campaign this weekend.

Berryman will join a 12-strong field for the S5000 title decider next week as his teammate Joey Mawson seeks to claim a second consecutive Gold Star title.

To do so, the Sydneysider will need to hold off challenges from nearest contenders Tim Macrow, James Golding and Cooper Webster in a four-driver battle for the championship.

The S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship makes their debut at Hidden Valley next week as part of the massive Merlin Darwin Triple Crown event.

“I can’t wait to return to S5000. I’ve had a few years off through Covid and being busy with farming and kids, but I’m ready to drive again,” Berryman said.

“When I got the call to do it and that there was a spare seat at Team BRM I jumped at it. They’re a great team and great people so I can’t wait.

“Thanks to ALABAR and Form 700 for their support of the team: it’s great to have such fantastic supporters backing the team and the series.

“My long-time supporters Delta Agribusiness will also be on the car and it’s great to have them on board as well.

“I’ve never been to Hidden Valley but looking forward to checking it out. I’m not going in with high expectations, just to enjoy the weekend, have fun with the car and keep it in one piece.

“I’ll let the guys fight it out for the title in front and just have fun and enjoy the experience.

“I’d love to do more and we’re getting things sorted to do more later this year. I’d love to do more in S5000, especially the Tasman Series.

“I’ve been doing very little racing lately but I’m very ready to go again.”
