Breakthrough win for Cameron Tilley as Pacer Performs in Sydney
Race three at the second round of the Gulf Western Touring Car Masters saw a break-through win for Cameron Tilley and his Anglomoil Valiant Pacer.
“I won a Trophy race before but never the proper one until now,” he enthused. “Go the Mopar power!”
Tilley grabbed the lead off the rolling start from the second row, and never looked in danger of losing being beaten.
Second place went to John Bowe who was the outright and Pro Masters winner in his Rare Spares Holden Torana A9X. He started 11th, due to an incorrectly marked pair of tyres, and charged through to ultimately pass Ryan Hansford (Multispares Torana).
Fourth place went to the consistent Jamie Tilley (VP Racing Fuels Ford Mustang) who finished ahead of Gerard McLeod (Motor Parts Australia Holden Commodore VB) and Danny Buzadzic (Western General Body Works A9X).
Seventh went to Cameron McConville (Camaro) ahead of Ben Dunn (Chev Monza) in his best finish, Jim Pollicina (A9X), Mark King (Camaro), and Cam Mason and Leo Tobin in their Mustangs. Pro Sports’ Peter Burnitt (A9X) was next in front of Andrew Fisher (Ford Falcon XY GTHO) and Warren Trewin (Holden Monaro HQ).
It was a disastrous race for former series points leader George Miedecke. The Daimler Trucks Adelaide Camaro refused to start as the formed-up grid set off and was bumped started to resume at the rear of grid. After several laps of making up spots, the car shutdown with a suspected failed alternator.
Tony Karanfilovski was an early casualty as the Mustang had a broken gearbox, and Brad Tilley (Falcon GTHO) looked likely to snare sixth spot when he retired after an axle oil seal let go.
