HMO Customer Racing return to happy hunting ground
Sydney Motorsport Park provides many happy memories for HMO Customer Racing outside of it being the team’s home track after taking four wins across Supercheap Auto TCR Australia’s previous two visits.
Will Brown in the category’s inaugural season and Josh Buchan last year took two wins apiece as HMO Customer Racing’s stranglehold on the venue is aimed to continue this weekend at Round 4 of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

There is an added challenge this weekend as the category will race at night for the first time on Saturday evening where the action will not only be available as usual through Stan Sport, but on free-to-air on 9Gem also during primetime.
Buchan leads the HMO Customer Racing tilt in the series standings in sixth following two podium finishes at the Mountain, however he is aiming to continue his winning form from last season.
“I’m feeling really confident coming into this weekend, especially considering it was where I scored my first two TCR victories last year,” he reflected.
“It’s a circuit that obviously really suits the Hyundai i30 N TCR, and one that I have the most experience on.
Our car is also in the strongest possible specification without any success ballast, so that should play into our hands.
“However, if there is anything that this season has proven so far, it’s that form counts for nothing so I’m under no illusion that the competition will be extremely tough once again.”
Morcom is aiming to turnaround his season after a disappointing start to his third campaign and believes Sydney can provide that.
“It should be a good weekend for us, and I’m looking forward to challenging at the front, getting on the podium and scoring points to get our championship back on track after a tough run at Bathurst,” Morcom explained.
“The cars have proven to be fast at Sydney Motorsport Park, and we’ve got some new tricks up our sleeve after a recent test session.
“The night race will be spectacular, and I’m looking forward to that having won the recent 2022 Time Attack in similar conditions.”
Fresh off his maiden victory at Bathurst, Bailey Sweeny is eager to continue his rich vein of form at a circuit he holds prior knowledge of.
“I can’t wait to get back into the car this weekend after scoring my first race win at Bathurst – and a setting a new TCR lap record – in the last round,” Bailey enthused.
“It has given me a lot more faith in my ability and a better understanding of how to extract the best from the Hyundai i30 N TCR over an entire race.
“Sydney Motorsport Park has been a strong track for HMO Customer Racing in the past, and hopefully we can score the first ever podium lock out with the number one in front of my car.”
For the third time in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia history, Hyundai will be represented by five entries as HMO Customer Racing will be joined by privateers Royal Purple Racing spearheaded by Brad Shiels and Luke King in the Moutai/ZIP PAY i30 N TCR prepared by DashSport.
The SpeedSeries in Sydney will feature seven racing categories and 15 hours of live and ad-break free coverage on Stan Sport across Saturday and Sunday.
The opening race under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park also headlines 9Gem’s two hour live broadcast starting from 5:30pm AEST.
