Confidence building for Brett Holdsworth

Understated in the way he has progressed through the field, Brett Holdsworth is emerging as a title contender in the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series.

Moving to Ashley Seward Motorsport during the off-season, Holdsworth has continued to advance through a competitive Turtle Wax Trans Am Series field and is confident Sydney Motorsport Park will continue this ascension in the Breeze Holiday Parks Chevrolet Camaro.

Currently sitting fourth in the standings behind GRM Team Valvoline’s Nathan Herne, Tim Brook for Wall Racing and Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Owen Kelly, Holdsworth has punched above his weight this season.

“Bathurst was a key round for us, we definitely unlocked some speed,” said Holdsworth.

“Back at Sydney last year I was really lacking on the front end but that’s exactly what we found in Bathurst.

“If there’s anywhere where you actually need a bit of turn in, it’s Sydney Motorsport Park. I went and looked through all the notes as well and analysed where we’ve been missing a bit.

“We just need to put together another consistent round but hopefully a couple spots higher so we can bridge that gap to the top three in the series which has been the goal since Round 1.”

Added challenges for some Turtle Wax Trans Am Series competitors will be qualifying and Race 2 taking place at night, with the latter covered not only on Stan Sport, but on free to air through 9Gem.

“Qualifying under lights is unreal, we got to do that last year,” he said.

“This year we get to race under lights as well which is going to be so cool, it really reminds me of the good old days in karting racing around at night in Ipswich.”

Also the weekend’s second race under lights will form part of 9Gem’s two-hour live coverage on Saturday evening.
