Bowe scrapes past Hansford to claim Sydney pole
Holden Torana A9Xs will have the front row for race one of the Gulf Western Oils Touring Car Masters second round at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Pole position was taken by John Bowe in his Rare Spares Torana, his 53rd in the category and the margin over Multispares Torana driver Ryan Hansford was 0.06 seconds, the ninth closest of all time and the tightest since Queensland Raceway in 2017.
Third on the time sheets was Jamie Tilley (Ford Mustang) ahead of George Miedecke (Chev Camaro) and Jim Pollicina (A9X). The five were covered by just 0.4 seconds.
It was an engrossing session with the latter the fastest initially, then Hansford with the pair again swapping top times before Tilley went ahead briefly. Bowe bided his time and stormed to the top on later on his fifth circuit.
Sixth fastest was Gerard McLeod (Holden Commodore VB) ahead of Cam Tilley (Valiant Pacer), Cam Mason (Mustang), Brad Tilley (Ford Falcon XY GTHO) and Tony Karanfilovski (Mustang).
Outside the ten were Danny Buzadzic (A9X), Cam McConville (Camaro), Ben Dunn (Chev Monza), Andrew Fisher (Falcon GTHO), Mark King (Camaro), Peter Burnitt (A9X) and Warren Trewin (Holden Monaro HQ).
Bowe was quickest of the Pro Masters, Jamie Tilley in Pro Am, and Pro Sports was the realm of Burnitt.
The Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters will hit the track on Saturday afternoon at 2:45 pm for the Trophy Race – a reverse grid event with start and finish points only. Then at 5:00 pm, the 12-lap race one will commence.
