0.08s between key contenders following S5000 practice

JOEY MAWSON and James Golding swapped positions in S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship practice 2 at Sydney Motorsport Park, reversing the order from practice one.

Form 700 / ALABAR Team BRM driver Mawson edged Team Valvoline GRM star Golding by 0.08 in the second and final session as attention turns to qualifying tomorrow.

The pair make up the closest rivalry in S5000 and have been evenly matched since the series first raced at Sydney Motorsport Park last year.

Aaron Cameron was third, just 0.25s away from Mawson’s 1m25.6584s flyer that was good enough to top the session.

Just 0.16 further back was Nathan Herne who ensured GRM continued their strong Sydney Motorsport Park form.

Tim Macrow was fifth while Cooper Webster, Blake Purdie and Shae Davies completed the eight runners.

Attention now turns to qualifying and the first race tomorrow afternoon.

The opening race will be the first ever Motorsport Australia Gold Star race to ever be held under lights and headlines 9Gem’s two hour live broadcast starting from 5:30pm AEST. Qualifying will be shown live on Stan Sport earlier in the day.
