Michael Caruso aiming to repeat 2021 success at Sydney Motorsport Park

If there is one thing remembered from last year’s Supercheap Auto TCR Australia round at Sydney Motorsport Park, it’s the passionate celebration of Michael Caruso as he crossed the line to secure his maiden victory.

In front of family, friends and supporters, the Sydney local was ecstatic to score success on home turf, Caruso is targeting more of the same this weekend.

“It’s been a rollercoaster year so far, we’ve not got the results I feel that we deserve,” said Caruso.

“Last year the Sydney round was my best outing of the year, it all came together really nicely.

This season, Caruso made the switch from Garry Rogers Motorsport to Ashley Seward Motorsport in an Autoglym-backed Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR.

Although he has experienced a mixed start to his second season of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia competition, Caruso is buoyant about his chances.

“A different team this year but heading to Sydney we’ve performed better than we did in 2021 and the ASM crew are on the ball with everything,” he explained.

“We should be able to replicate our performances from last year across the weekend. Hopefully we can do even better.”

Caruso’s best ever Supercheap Auto TCR Australia round was at the venue last year taking sixth, third and his maiden victory in the final. Entering this season’s Sydney Motorsport Park round ninth in the standings in what is a very tight title fight, with 72-points covering the top 10.

Having finished a best of fourth this season during the previous round at Bathurst, Caruso is eager to build on this at his local event.

“I really enjoy Sydney Motorsport Park, it’s a great track with a good mix of corners and it’s a home round for me as well,” he said.

“All the family and friends get around to the track and we just have a really good time.”

The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series headlines the third round of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships where fellow Australian Racing Group categories the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters and Turtle Wax Trans Am Series feature at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 27-29.

Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, the Australian Production Car Series, Radical Cup and the Australian Prototype Series complete a stacked program of categories.
