TCM Round 2 entry list confirmed with familiar faces returning
THE RETURN of home-town hero Brad Tilley and Cameron McConville’s category debut headline the field assembled for the second round of the 2022 Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters Series this week.
The category returns to Sydney Motorsport Park this week at the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event and Round 4 of the SpeedSeries.
Historic Touring Car hero Tilley will race against his son, Jamie, this weekend amidst a competitive 19-strong field lining up for the four races on the schedule.
Several competitors make a welcome return to the TCM grid this weekend, following a competitive opening round of the series at the same venue earlier this year.
Holden Torana drivers Danny Buzadzic and Peter Burnitt return to the grid, while Gerard McLeod will also make his first start of 2022 aboard his VB Commodore.
Buzadzic will drive his Torana A9X Hatchback, which last raced at Bathurst in December sporting a stunning Allan Grice tribute livery.
Queenslander Burnitt will drive his four-door Lighthouse Hotel-backed Torana.
McLeod was a strong performer at the Sydney venue last year and the Commodore is expected to perform even better this weekend following a year’s worth of development.
Meanwhile, the ever-popular Chevrolet Monza of Ben Dunn will make it’s first start of the 2022 season.
Already announced, Cameron McConville will make his TCM debut aboard the Fataz Racing-owned 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, owned by Ian Woodward and raced in the past by Ryal Harris.
McConville is a proven Supercars race winner and while he will go into the weekend cold – with no pre-event testing – his experience will be key in joining the competitive TCM fight for the first time this weekend.
Unfortunately missing in action from the Sydney grid – at this point – are the popular pair of XD Ford Falcons.
Steven Johnson’s Tru Blu Mark III is on the side-lines after a budget shortfall and a focus on son Jett’s campaign in Turtle Wax Trans Am competition have forced the three-time champ to park Car 17 this weekend.
Meanwhile, Marcus Zukanovic will miss the event due to personal reasons. Both Falcon drivers hope to return later this season.
George Miedecke leads the TCM standings following a strong performance in the opening round of the series at Sydney Motorsport Park last time out.
The Whiteline Racing Chevrolet Camaro driver won the final race and the round in Sydney in March and holds a narrow eight-point lead over Multispares Holden Torana driver, Ryan Hansford.
John Bowe sits third in the championship following another competitive start to his TCM campaign.
Action this weekend will be streamed live, ad-break free and on-demand via Stan Sport this weekend.
