Audi maintain the pace in LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour qualifying

Red flags interrupted and ended both 25-minute segments of qualifying early, but it was the Coinspot Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of Chaz Mostert, Liam Talbot and Fraser Ross ending on aggregate as the fastest.

The two drivers participating in each qualifying session had both their times combined, with the 10 fastest progressing to the Shootout later this afternoon.

Talbot topped his session although a red flag in response to Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia’s Yasser Shahin spinning and becoming beached on the inside of Murray’s Corner. This spoilt teammate Brad Schumacher’s pursuit of Talbot’s time as he approached Murray’s Corner the red flag was shown.

Schumacher and Kelvin van der Linde’s combined times resulted in second as Shahin partnered by Ricardo Feller was third reenforcing Audi’s practice dominance.

Leading the Mercedes-AMG charge was Jules Gounon and Martin Konrad in the SunEnergy1 Racing/Triple Eight Race Engineering entry.

The leading Am team were sixth in the form of the RAM Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Garth Walden and Brett Hobson, while Grove Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3-R spearheaded by Ben Barker with Stephen Grove sixth.

Maybe the biggest surprise appearance in the Top 10 Shootout is the Valmont Racing Mercedes-AMG team with Duvashen Padayachee and Sergio Pires giving a team a berth, while Shane van Gisbergen makes it in the Triple Eight Race Engineering Mercedes partnering Prince Jefri Ibrahim.

The final two squads to make it were Wall Racing’s combination of Tony D’Alberto and Grant Denyer in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, while Lee Holdsworth partnering Marc Cini in the Hallmarc Audi completes the runners.

Missing out was the C-Tech Laser Audi shared by David Reynolds, Cameron Waters and Tony Bates after failing to complete a fast lap in the second session due to the red flag, which came out with seven minutes to go for the Invitational Class Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car driven by Eric Constantindis after colliding with the wall appraoching Reid Park.

Today’s Top 10 Shootout begins at 4:10pm AEST.
