Trans Am rivalry continues to build amid title fight
Just 19-points separate Valvoline Team GRM’s Nathan Herne and Tim Brook for Wall Racing heading to the halfway mark of the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series at Sydney Motorsport Park next month.
Although challenged by Aaron Seton last year, Herne’s season hasn’t been made easier as Brook with Paul Forgie as engineer and Wall Racing behind him has emerged as more than fit rival to take up the mantle.

“Nathan’s definitely made me pull my finger out,” Brook said.
“I feel like we were better in that final race [at Bathurst], it would have been great if that last safety car didn’t come out because we took our time to get going a bit as the tyres came in.
“We were chipping away and right there when the safety car came out, ready to give the belts a quick tug exiting Turn 2 to see if I could hold on across the top to do something in the final corner or at Turn 1 under brakes.
“Credit where credit is due, he is probably the most committed I think I have ever seen across the top, there really isn’t much between the wall and the mirrors at every corner across there.”
Although Brook was left to mull the final safety car at Bathurst, he is excited by his development as a driver and believes more is to come.
“I feel like I’m driving better than ever,” he reflected.
“We’re pretty happy that we’re close, I’m 36-years-old and I have a little more self preservation I suppose you could say.
“Some of those moments across the top, you get to Forrest’s Elbow and take a few breaths, then say to yourself ‘alright, we’ve got to do it again’.”
Brook played down his home track advantage at Sydney Motorsport Park as the strength of the field continues to grow as the season goes on.
“It’s our backyard and we want to put on a good show there with a lot of family, friends, supporters and more in attendance,” Brook reiterated.
“It’s clear he [Herne] has the pace and we’re only going to get quicker, plus some of the other guys like Gricey is as quick as anyone on his day.”
The Turtle Wax Trans Am Series features as part of the third round of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships at Sydney Motorsport Park which is headlined by fellow Australian Racing Category the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series in addition to the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters.
