Triple Eight team ready for Mountain enduro challenge

Regular Triple Eight Race Engineering Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS drivers Prince Jefri Ibrahim and Shane van Gisbergen are ready for a new challenge at Bathurst next month.

Joining the pair is van Gisbergen’s new Red Bull Ampol Racing Team teammate Broc Feeney as the trio enter an endurance event for the first time together, the prestigious LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour.

Forming part of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS Endurance Championship as well as the global Intercontinental GT Challenge, the trio will represent Mercedes-AMG in both and will enter as one of the favourites.

It follows a slow start to the season at Phillip Island as Audi took an early lead in the title race.

Prince Jefri Ibrahim has paired with both drivers before in previous Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS events before, taking his maiden victory partnering van Gisbergen at Bathurst and a podium with Feeney at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Van Gisbergen highlighted Prince Jefri Ibrahim’s important role to play as he aims to add another LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour win to his resume.

“This race is a great opportunity for Iman [Prince Jefri Ibrahim] as well, as it’s a big step up for him, but I think he’s ready for it,” van Gisbergen said.

“It’s going to be exciting to see how he goes in an endurance race. We obviously have three different drivers and different sizes, so we’ll all have to get the car to suit each other. In practice, we’ll make sure we’re all getting a good amount of seat time, but the car has to be both fast and drivable for each driver.”

The Triple Eight entry will be hard to miss as it carries the fluro yellow hue of MANN-FILTER.

“The car looks great and will look even better on track at Mount Panorama – I’m so excited for this event to return next month.

“We had the team at MANN-FILTER on our car at the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2020, so it’s awesome that they’ve continued their major partnership of the team for the race’s return in 2022.

“Any laps around Mount Panorama are cool, especially in a GT car. We obviously haven’t done this race for a few years, so it’ll be great to get back there.”

The next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS is the LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour to be held on May 13-15.
