New Ferrari completes first test at Fiorano

The highly anticipated new Ferrari 296 GT3 has completed its maiden test at the marque’s famous Fiorano test track ahead of its competitive racing debut next year.

Experienced pair Alessandro Pier Guidi and Andrea Bertolini took the wheel of the 296 GT3 for its inaugural on-track running where the turbocharged-V6 challenger was put through its paces as technicians from Maranello were on hand to complete regular checks.

The latest generation of Ferrari’s GT3 model is the first to be built by noted French racing company Oreca.

“Today marks the occasion of GT racing becoming part of our future and it’s a special moment,” said Head of Ferrari Attivita Sportive GT Antonello Coletta

“We chose to carry out the first tests in Fiorano because it’s our home and to allow the people who worked on the project to share a very special emotion.

“The car has an intense testing program ahead of it, but we’ve already had some good feedback from this first session.”

The 296 GT3 is one of many new models being developed for the global regulations as Chevrolet with its Corvette and the Ford Mustang will join in the next few years, while many manufacturers have elected to update models.

The next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS is the LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour to be held on May 13-15.
