NAPA Auto Parts confirms naming-rights partnership with Jett Johnson’s Trans Am entry

Third-generation driver Jett Johnson will carry the support of NAPA Auto Parts for the remaining rounds of the 2022 Turtle Wax Trans Am Series.

The grandson of three-times Bathurst 1000 winner Dick Johnson and son of Supercars race winner Steve has revealed a striking new look for his Ford Mustang Trans Am, featuring the iconic NAPA Auto Parts brand.

NAPA Auto Parts is the perfect fit for Johnson and the family dynasty that has made his surname recognised Australia wide.

Trust, professionalism and expertise is what the automotive brand – and the Johnsons – are renowned for, and now the latest generation of the Queensland family will represent NAPA Auto Parts at the top-level of Trans Am racing in Australia.

Now with locations in every state of Australia and across New Zealand, NAPA is equipped with Australia’s widest range in aftermarket parts, diverse application knowledge, convenient locations and a market leading online ordering catalogue.

Johnson, 17, is creating his own niche in the sport. Having started in karts and competed at state-level competition in a variety of cars and classes, he has stepped up to the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series in 2022. Starting in karts and quickly advancing through the Hyundai Excel and other state-based racing series, Johnson is the perfect inductee into the popular NAPA Know How Motorsport Academy as one of its premier drivers.

“It’s awesome to have NAPA Auto Parts on our Team Johnson Trans Am car, and what better place to kick off the partnership than at Mount Panorama, which will be my first time at the track,” said Johnson.

“The thing I love about Trans Am is that for young kids like me, trying to forge a career in the sport, the cars have a really raw driving style. They have no traction control, no ABS, they have a lot of power and all of the cars are the same except the different body shells for Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge.

“It’s a great class to be involved in and to have NAPA Auto Parts on my side is a real career highlight for me.

“I’m grateful to be inducted into the NAPA Know How Motorsport Academy. I think it’s an unreal tool for any grassroots racer, any young future stars, or just anyone that wants to take the next steps in their racing career. The Academy offers a lot of tips and tricks to get the edge on their competition.”

The Academy is aimed at fast-tracking grassroots racing car drivers in Australia and New Zealand, offering exclusive and insightful content that can give them the edge over their rivals on and off the track.

With tips and guiding tutorials that aid drivers at their race craft, health and fitness, commercial and media, the NAPA Know How Motorsport Academy is a free service that offers prizes and rewards for showing how they use the material supplied in the Academy.

The NAPA Know How Motorsport Academy is NAPA Auto Part’s signature strategy in the Australian and New Zealand markets, maintaining its significant presence in global motorsport.

Head of Sponsorship, NAPA Auto Parts Asia Pacific Mitch Wiley said the announcement was an exciting one just prior to a circuit, which is synonymous with the Johnson name.

“We are so thrilled to welcome Jett to the NAPA family,” said Wiley.

“The whole NAPA team across Australia and New Zealand can’t wait to cheer him on at Bathurst this weekend and for the rest of the Trans Am Series.

“Jett joins the NAPA Know How Motorsport Academy at a really exciting time, and we can’t wait to celebrate his development and growth as a future motorsport champion.”

NAPA Auto Parts is a major player in American auto racing and is a primary partner of champion drivers Chase Elliott (NASCAR), Alexander Rossi (IndyCar), Brad Sweet (World of Outlaws) and Ron Capps (NHRA Drag Racing).

NAPA UK is also making a splash in the British Touring Car Championship and Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain this year, while NAPA New Zealand has recently thrown its support behind Breanna Morris (Formula Ford) and Justin Allen (Toyota 86).

The support of Johnson ensures a truly global approach, and in his debut year at a national-level, Jett currently sits 14th in the competitive Trans Am Series. In his two rounds so far, the third-generation driver has collected three top 10s and a top five finish in the opening two rounds of the national-level series.

The next round, and the first for the new Johnson/NAPA connection, will be held on the hollowed Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst this weekend as part of the Hi-Tech Oils Bathurst 6 Hour event over the Easter long weekend.

Get up close and watch the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series at Mount Panorama as part of a bumper Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour bill also featuring the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, the MRF Tyres Australian Pulsar Racing Association, NSW Historic Touring Cars and NSW HQ Holdens.

All of the action will be live, ad-break free and on demand exclusively on Stan Sport in Australia.
