Tony Bates full of praise for co-driver David Reynolds

Despite limited time in the seat, David Reynolds excelled sharing the C-Tech Laser Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo 2 with Tony Bates at Phillip Island for the opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS.

The pair missed the podium by 0.3s as Reynolds just failed to overhaul Supercars rival Shane van Gisbergen in the Triple Eight Race Engineering Mercedes-AMG GT3 he shared with Prince Jefri Ibrahim in what was a thrilling battle.

However, the pair made up for that result in Sunday’s final race by finishing third as Bates lauded co-driver Reynolds after a successful start to the new relationship of which will continue for the rest of the season.

Bates detailed the limited experience Reynolds had prior to the weekend in the Audi as he lauded his performance.

“David did a sensational job at Phillip Island,” Bates said.

“He only had two sessions in the car prior to the race, so for him to be battling against Van Gisbergen and recording such fast times was a terrific effort.

“I felt comfortable in the car as well, the Melbourne Performance Centre crew have done a great job with the setup and I know we have the package to contend for podiums.”
