The champion strikes back in Race 2 at Phillip Island

Reigning Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS champion Yasser Shahin has taken victory in the second one hour encounter at Phillip Island alongside Audi Sport factory ace Christopher Mies.

Starting from pole, Chaz Mostert was swamped off the start by Mies and the Triple Eight Race Engineering Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Shane van Gisbergen, while David Reynolds pairing with Tony Bates in the C-Tech Laser Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II was not far behind.

Mies was able to retain the lead in the Audi Sport Australia Team Valvoline R8 LMS GT3 evo II as Mostert in the Coinspot example passed van Gisbergen soon after to chase down Mies.

In what was an impressive charge, the two Audis battled for much of the opening stint as lap traffic played its part in fluctuating the gap.

The pair remained close entering the pits and this is where Shahin entered and took control of the race securing a 2s victory from Liam Talbot having taken over from Mostert.

Third was Reynolds and Bates, while the Grove Group Porsche GT3-R 911-II just missed a podium berth as Stephen and Brenton Grove continue to develop the relatively new entry.

In their new Mercedes-AMG GT3, Prince Jefri Ibrahim and van Gisbergen finished fifth in what was a tough weekend.

In Am Class, Matt Stoupas took victory in the KFC-supported Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II ahead of Mike Sheargold and Garth Walden sharing the RAM Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3, while Mark Rosser finished third.

Brad Schumacher was the winner in GT Trophy driving his Audi R8 LMS GT3 Ultra ahead of the Porsche 997 GT3-R of Dean Koutsoumidis and Brett Hobson in the mighty Nissan GT-R GT3.

GT4 was taken by debutants Ross Poulakis and Sam Brabham from fellow Mercedes-AMG GT4 driver Mark Griffith as Madeline Stewart in the Ginetta rounded out the field.
