Shane van Gisbergen leads final GT World Challenge Australia practice session
Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Shane van Gisbergen has paced the field in the second and final practice session driving the Mercedes-AMG GT3 he’ll share with Prince Jefri Ibrahim.
The Kiwi set a 1m 29.3172s to top the timesheets, 0.7100 clear from the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II of Chaz Mostert, while Tony D’Alberto made it three manufacturers at the head of the results in third driving the Wall Racing Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3.

Mostert and D’Alberto set their fastest times in quick succession with five minutes to go, but were unable to shift van Gisbergen from the top as the Kiwi further lowered his benchmark on his last flying lap.
Yasser Shahin took over from opening practice pacesetter Christopher Mies and placed fourth in the pair’s Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II, while Am leader Paul Stokell completed the top five in the similar KFC-supported example.
Brenton Grove in the Grove Group Porsche GT3-R 911-II was sixth ahead of Brett Hobson in his GT Trophy Nissan GT-R GT3, who was just 0.0492s ahead of class rival Brad Schumacher’s Audi R8 LMS GT3.
Second in Am was Ben Porter in the AMAC Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3 from the second KFC Audi of class leader this morning Matt Stoupas.
Sam Brabham led the way in GT4 for Mercedes ahead of Madeline Stewart in the Ginetta and Mark Griffith.
Qualifying will commence at 4pm this afternoon.
The Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS will be supported by an impressive array of racing categories, including the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, Turtle Wax Trans Am Series, the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and plenty more.
