Christopher Mies tops the timesheets in opening GT World Challenge Australia practice
Audi factory ace Christopher Mies has topped the opening session at Round 1 of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS at Phillip Island.
Partnering reigning champion Yasser Shahin in a Melbourne Performance Centre Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II, Mies set a best time late in the session of 1m 29.0609s to lead the similar entry of Tony Bates and David Reynolds by 0.2239s.

Completing an Audi lockout of the top three positions was the pairing of Liam Talbot and Chaz Mostert, who were 0.9846s behind.
Fourth outright and leader in GT Trophy was Brett Hobson making his debut in the ex-Nissan Australia GT-R GT3 driven to podium success at the Bathurst 12 Hour.
Rounding out the top five was Adrian Deitz in the Wall Racing Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3 he’ll share with Tony D’Alberto this weekend.
Victorian Matt Stoupas led the way in the Am Class driving the lead KFC Audi R8 GT3 LMS evo II, pipping the RAM Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 to be shared by Mike Sheargold and Garth Walden by 0.2722. Reigning class winners Andrew Macpherson and Ben Porter were just 0.2786s behind in their AMAC Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3.
The Ginetta of Madeline Stewart led the way in GT4, 1.0582s clear of debutant Ross Poulakis in the Mercedes-AMG GT4 he’ll share with Sam Brabham, while class stalwart Mark Griffith in a similar model rounded out the three entries.
Practice 2 for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia is currently happening, while qualifying rounds out the day of action at 4:00pm AEDT.
The Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS will be supported by an impressive array of racing categories, including the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, Turtle Wax Trans Am Series, the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and plenty more.
