Sam Brabham set for Australian racing debut this weekend
The famous Brabham surname will make its debut in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS this weekend at Phillip Island.
Sam, grandson of Sir Jack and son of Le Mans 24 Hour winner David Brabham will make his maiden race appearance on Australian shores this weekend partnering Ross Poulakis in the Customer Sports and Restorations entered Mercedes-AMG.

A race winner in Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, English born Brabham also finished fourth in the British Formula Ford Championship and since 2020 has based himself in Australia where he is a driver coach.
Brabham was unable to race when he arrived due to the effects of the global pandemic, but is excited to return behind the wheel in anger as he and Poulakis target GT4 honours.
“It’s been a late call up to this, but I’m ecstatic and delighted to get the opportunity,” said Brabham.
“It’s my first proper race in Australia, which is strange because I’ve been living in Australia for almost two years, but with COVID and other things, I haven’t been in the position to race. Now the stars have aligned and this is pretty awesome.
“I’ve been coaching the guys who race this car, so I have some knowledge of the car, and I’ve done plenty of laps around Phillip Island too. It’s probably the circuit that I’ve driven on the most here in Australia.
“I have a reasonable base of knowledge to get started, so I should be fine and I’m looking forward to working with Ross and the team.”
Brabham and Poulakis will be one of three GT4 entries taking on the pair of one hour events this weekend at Phillip Island alongside fellow Mercedes driver Mark Griffith, while Porsche regular Madeline Stewart completes the field in a Ginetta GT4.
More than 20 cars have entered for the opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS at Phillip Island, including the likes of Triple Eight’s Shane van Gisbergen and Prince Jefri, Supercars star David Reynolds and Tony Bates in an Audi, international fast man Christopher Mies with reigning champion Yasser Shahin, as well as the Lamborghini for Supercheap Auto TCR Australia star Tony D’Alberto with Adrian Dietz.
The full GT entry list will be revealed this afternoon.
