BOWE EDGES OUT TILLEY IN TROPHY DASH

JOHN BOWE has edged out Jamie Tilley to win an entertaining TCM trophy race at Sydney Motorsport Park, kicking off the 2022 racing season in style.

Bowe’s 101st TCM race win came from 15th on the grid but with his usual storming drive through the field from the back.

RESULTS: Trophy Race

Starting from pole, Cameron Mason led early and engaged in a heady battle with Jim Pollicina’s Holden Torana.

The pair battled for the first two laps on a circuit that, while fully dry, still had rivers of water running across it from overnight rain that left the surface slippery in places.

Tilley’s Mustang was a quick mover, however, and soon raced his way to the lead and by the time Bowe found himself in second, had a more than two second lead.

Bowe gradually hunted down the second-generation Sydney driver and passed him with a lap to go to record the first in what is now his second century of TCM wins.

Tilley’s second represented the best result of his brief TCM career – the son of TCM champion Brad having twice finished on the podium at the same circuit last year as well.

George Miedecke charged to third with a thrilling drive in the Whiteline Racing Camaro with Marcus Zukanovic and Mason completing the top five in an entertaining affair.

Miedecke’s drive came with plenty of oversteer and sideways moments aboard his Whiteline Racing Camaro.

The top 10 was completed by Pollicina, Cameron Tilley, Steven Johnson, Ryan Hansford and Andrew Fisher.

The TCM series proper commences later this afternoon, with the first race to pay full championship points set for 3:50pm local time.

The race will be shown live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sport.
