Race winning data aids in Iain McDougall’s return
It was a dominant performance by Melbourne Performance Centre at Phillip Island last year and it’s this data, which is aiding in Iain McDougall’s return to the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.
McDougall completed 80 laps at Phillip Island last week in his first taste of the Audi RS3 LMS TCR since The Bend finale in 2019. However, re-acquainting himself in the Audi was made easier by the data available to McDougall through MPC.

“It was really good day,” McDougall described.
“It was about refining the structures we’re going to use on a race weekend down pat, which was really good and I made some great learnings in that area.
“Fortunately, MPC and the Audis had a lot of success there last year, so most of the day was about finding how Chaz (Mostert) and Luke (King) found the speed last year as well as what did or didn’t work.
“It was about ingraining this into me on how to approach the car and how to find speed so we’re a little bit ahead of the curve when we hit the track in Friday practice.”
Re-learning the ergonomics of the Audi was high on the priority list as well, especially ahead of the Phillip Island round where McDougall is confident of a strong result given his experience at the venue.
Being left-hand-drive, all of the view points are a bit different to what I’m used to from racing the Mini,” said McDougall.
“Also learning to work with the engineer, so to the approach and how we go about racing.
“To get used to that before the next round is great and we were really fortunate as it was an open pit lane all day, so we were able to run a different program to if it was split into 20 minute sessions.”
McDougall now prepares for his second round of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia where he will reveal a new livery, which he hinted will have an Audi heritage theme.
The second round of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia will be part of the opening Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event of the season at Phillip Island on March 18-20.
