The relationship between GRM and Garland began at Sydney Motorsport Park last year when he crewed on the team’s S5000s, a role that continued at Bathurst.

As one of the young drivers selected to participate in the inaugural GRM Combine – Driven by Marcos Ambrose, Garland went onto complete the team’s pre-season test at Winton where he sampled the Renault.

The 21-year-old New South Welshman has graduated through the karting ranks and recently competed in Aussie Racing Cars.

Garland will compete with support from Valvoline on his Renault, with the livery to be revealed next Thursday ahead of the opening round of the series at Symmons Plains Raceway.

After a successful day of testing at Winton Garland is excited to join the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia field.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am grateful to Garry and Barry for their support,” he said.

“I’m really going to be pushing this year and hopefully get some great results.”

GRM Director Barry Rogers explained Garland’s performance during the Combine led to this opportunity.

“Kody came out of the Combine as one of the young guys who was very, very impressive,” he said.

“Garry’s keen to bring some more talent through GRM like Kody and we’ll see him at Symmons Plains next week for the first round of the TCR season.”

GRM Competition Director Marcos Ambrose is confident Garland will be competitive in his rookie TCR season.

“We first saw Kody on track at the GRM Combine so that’s really exciting that we’ve been able to get someone that’s shown a lot of composure and skill,” said Ambrose.

“He showed that he was really ready to step up and we’ve been able to place him in one of our factory cars here at GRM.

“We’re excited to see his development, year one will be a development year for him to learn the cars and tracks but we’re really excited to have him on the GRM team and looking forward to seeing what he can do in the Renault.”

Garland joins a crack field of drivers and teams in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series field ahead of Round 1 at the AWC Race Tasmania at Symmons Plains Raceway.
